Ruby Sandhu-Rojon joins UNDP Africa as Regional Deputy

Ruby Sandhu-Rojon has joined UNDP in New York as Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Regional Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa. She brings a wealth of UN experience to the team at RBA headquarters. She comes from the UNDP Country Office in Ghana, where she served as UN Resident Coordinator since 2010.

Prior to serving as Resident Coordinator in Ghana, Ms. Sandhu-Rojon was the UNDP Country Director in Burkina Faso. She also assumed the interim role of Resident Representative during the time the country underwent legislative elections in a major government turnover. As a member of the Technical Secretariat for the Annual Poverty Reduction Strategy review and with UNDP as lead agency for the governance sector, Ms. Sandhu-Rojon was able to raise sensitive issues of corruption with the Government and produced tangible results.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Sandhu-Rojon was posted to Germany as Chief of the African Section of UN Volunteers (UNV), where she promoted volunteerism for development and pioneered the development of a regional strategy for Africa, establishing a strategic vision on the value-added of volunteerism.

Ms. Sandhu-Rojon also served as Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Madagascar from 1999 to 2002, and as Special Assistant to the Administrator of UNDP from 1997 to 1999. She started her career as a Programme Officer at the African section of UNIFEM.

Ms. Sandhu-Rojon is from the United States and holds an MSc in Russian Politics from the London School of Economics, and a BA in Political Science specializing in International Economics and Politics from Bryn Mawr College, US.
