UN mourns one more death in Nigeria bomb blast
Abuja, Nigeria - The United Nations is deeply saddened by the death of Sunday Nwachukwu, a UN Development Programme (UNDP) staff member who was severely injured in a bomb attack on 26 August at the UN compound in Abuja, Nigeria.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Daouda Toure, conveyed his condolences to Mr. Nwachukwu’s friends and relatives and described him as “a hard working colleague and a friendly brother”.
Toure also reiterated that the UN’s programme in Nigeria continues, focusing on job creation, poverty alleviation, democratic governance and improving access to reproductive and maternal health.
Mr. Nwachukwu’s death brings the number of people killed in the
Abuja attack to 24, including 12 UN staff and 12 non-UN staff.
