Helen Clark: Statement on the outcome of the Third International Conference on Financing for DevelopmentJul 16, 2015
UNDP welcomes the adoption of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and congratulates Member States on reaching this agreement at the Third International Conference on Financing for Development. The Addis Ababa Action Agenda provides a financing framework which can support implementation of the proposed Sustainable Development Goals and national development goals.
The financing needed to meet the challenges of our times and to move the world towards sustainable development are high. Looking beyond Official Development Assistance, this agenda emphasizes the need to build capacities for domestic resource mobilization, and to access a wide range of sources of finance. It recognizes that financing for development must be risk informed, taking into account the accelerated impact of environmental degradation and climate change, as well as the vulnerability of growing populations to natural hazards.
As we look forward to the sustainable development summit in September in New York and the expected climate change agreement in December in Paris, UNDP will continue its work to support countries to have access to the resources they need to realize the new development agenda, manage risk, and build resilience which improves people’s lives.
