Through the Pandemic and Beyond: UNDP, AUC and Africa CDC Respond to COVID-19 in Africa

March 29, 2021

A new report by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and UNDP showcases the evolving partnership in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The brief report features the exemplary societal resilience across sectors, the sheer determination by Africans to cautiously minimize the health impact, as well as the social disruption and economic consequences of the pandemic.

UNDP and the African Union Commission partnered with community leaders to increase public awareness of the pandemic in border areas especially in the Lake Chad Basin, and Mano River and Horn of Africa regions. Both organizations documented how home-grown solutions emerged following the disruption of global supply chains. UNDP also remains a thought leader to our regional clients through the conduct of regional socio-economic assessments, and in articulating the impact of the pandemic on governance, peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel. This report reinforces the importance of whole-of-society partnerships in curbing and recovering from the pandemic.
